Truck, motorcycle collide on Kanner Highway in Indiantown

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

First responders said the incident occurred on the 11000 block of SW Kanner Highway, east of St. Lucie Mobile Home Village.

FHP arrived to the incident just after 9 a.m.

According to an FHP report obtained by WPBF 25 News Thursday afternoon, the incident was reported to FHP at 8:44 a.m. and it involved a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R750K motorcycle and a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck that was pulling a 40-foot flatbed trailer with a farm tractor.

FHP said the motorcycle, which was operated by a 35-year-old man, was traveling west on State Road 76 (Kanner Highway) in the eastbound lane overtaking other motorcycles.

The pickup truck, which was driven by a 34-year-old man, was traveling east on State Road 76. The left side of the motorcycle struck the left side of the pickup in the eastbound lane. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle and died. The driver of the truck stopped at the scene.

Several other riders sustained minor injuries.

The road in the area of the incident was shut down but has since reopened. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
