Two-alarm fire consumes home in Nokomis

A home in Nokomis was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning, Venice Fire Rescue reported.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Aug. 27, Nokomis firefighters were dispatched to Maple Street for a house reportedly smoking. While en route, firefighters were notified that the house was fully involved, but all residents and pets were able to escape outside.

Nokomis and Venice fire units began fighting the fire; a second alarm was sounded for additional personnel due to severe humidity. Nokomis, Sarasota County and Englewood fire department crews were also on scene to assist.

The fire was confirmed extinguished at shortly before 1 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross was in contact with family on scene, authorities said.
