Two people were killed in a two-vehicle wreck that temporarily closed a section of a major roadway Saturday night.

Here’s what we know about the crash:

Southeast Maricamp Road and Pine Trace in Silver Springs Shores.

James Lucas, Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman, said his agency was assigned the call at 9:27 p.m. and arrived at 9:32 p.m. Crew members pronounced two people deceased at 9:41 p.m.

A Chevy Equinox and and a Nissan Murano.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the drivers — both women — of the Chevy and Nissan died at the scene.

A 2-year-old child in the Chevy was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and from there is expected to be transported to UF Health Shands Hospital for further treatment.

Troopers said the Chevy driver, 23, of Ocala, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane on Maricamp Road. The 44-year-old Nissan driver, who’s from Summerfield, was traveling in the westbound lane. FHP officials said the two vehicles collided.

Officials said the toddler was removed from the vehicle by a passerby who came upon the crash. The relationship between the toddler and the driver was unknown.

Debris from the vehicles was scattered on the roadway. The area where the crash happened is dark.

Sheriff’s deputies blocked Maricamp Road at Pine Road and Maricamp Road and Midway Road.
