Two-year-old boy shot, killed in Florida home

A toddler was shot and killed in a Clewiston home on Wednesday night.

The Clewiston Police Department (CPD) said officers responded to a report of a gunshot at a home onSouth Lopez Street at around 7:30 p.m. Tragically at the scene, police discovered the victim— a two-year-old boy— dead from a gunshot wound.

After obtaining a search warrant, police said it was learned a gun was owned by someone in the home and it was determined that the shooting is a result of an accidental isolated incident.

Investigators have taken possession of the gun and the CPD said it is working closely with the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office, the State Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Children and Families.

“We are saddened by this tragic event and our hearts and prayers go out to the family,”said Clewiston Police Chief Tom Lewis. “We ask that the community respect their time to grieve and be patient as the investigation continues.”

Police said this is still an active investigation. No further details will be provided at this time.
