A cornerback in the United Football League from Jacksonville was killed after a head-on crash near Gainesville.

30-year-old Chris Payton-Jones died in a crash along State Road 24 late Saturday night.

He grew up playing football in Jacksonville and had a stint in the NFL before joining the Saint Louis Battlehawks.

The 21-year-old driver of the truck was slightly injured, but Payton-Jones was killed.
