A Universal employee was attacked after she refused to validate a guest’s restaurant parking ticket, so they didn’t have to pay for parking, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office
The woman told deputies that she was working at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel restaurant as a hostess when four guests were leaving and asked to have their four parking tickets validated.
The guests were later identified as OB DH, AB and LAC.
The employee only validated two of the parking tickets, making one of the guests, AB, upset.
According to OCSO, AB then picked up the parking stamp and validated her ticket herself.
At this time, the four guests exited the restaurant and went to the parking lot to retrieve their vehicles.
However, the OCSO said the hostess managed to contact the parking attendant to inform them that she had not validated the parking tickets the guests were trying to use.
About 20 minutes later, deputies say the guests returned to the restaurant with the parking tickets, demanding the employee validate them.
When she refused again, telling them she was unable to validate the tickets, deputies say AB began banging the establishment-owned iPad on the hostess’s desk.
Moments later, AB struck the employee in the face with her hand, causing her to fall to the floor.
OB, H and AC began striking, punching and kicking the woman while she was on the ground.
It wasn’t until the manager and another employee stepped in that they were able to break up the altercation.
The manager, Paul Julian, told deputies that as he approached the hostess stand, he witnessed the guest strike the employee in the face. Julian said he saw her fall to the ground.
Julian said he saw the three females, AC, OB and her mother, AB, kick, strike and pull on the employee’s hair.
OCSO said that after the fight was broken up, AB told Julian she needed to get her parking ticket validated, and the employee hit her. Julian told the employee he saw her hit first, not the other way around.
AB and OB were taken into custody. They were also trespassed from the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel for a year.
All four guests are charged with battery.
AB and OB have been released.
