A 48-year-old Pensacola man is dead after a driver attempted to flee from a Pensacola Police officer Tuesday evening.
Pensacola Police say that around 9:20 p.m., an officer tried to stop a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old Pensacola woman, but the vehicle fled and hit another vehicle at T and Avery Street approximately 30 seconds later.
The driver of the second vehicle — a 48-year-old Pensacola man — was pronounced dead on scene, police say.
The 31-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, while her passenger — a 29-year-old Pensacola woman — suffered critical injuries. Both are hospitalized.
Florida Highway Patrol says the 31-year-old woman ran a stop sign, which caused the crash.
“It is unclear at this point if the officer was pursuing the suspect vehicle or not,” Pensacola Police say. “That will be determined during the investigation after video footage is reviewed.”
Authorities have not yet released the names of the women involved or any impending charges.
FHP is still investigating.
