US-27 reopens after fatal crash in Clermont

US-27 reopens after fatal crash in Clermont

A crash early Sunday in Lake County killed a man, left another badly hurt, and forced the temporary closure of U.S. 27 in Clermont, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:54 a.m. just north of of Frank Jarrell Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 2019 Audi Q5 was being driven south on U.S. 27 by a 22-year-old Windermere man while a 2021 Toyota Camry traveled north, driven by a 28-year-old Orlando man. A witness said that the Audi was going at a high rate of speed and began traveling south in the northbound inside lane, causing a head-on collision with the Camry, the report states.

The Windermere man was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries while the Orlando man was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.

Northbound U.S. 27 was closed north of Frank Jarrell Road, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said on social media, but the road has since reopened.
