The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirms a vehicle crashed into a building Friday evening.
The crash happened at Lawhon’s Grocery and Meat in North Fort Myers, located at 9491 Bayshore Road.
Lawhon’s Grocery and Meat posted on Facebook that the business will be closed while repairs are made and safety concerns are addressed.
Danny Johnson II, a resident of Suncoast Estates in North Fort Myers, expressed his disappointment, saying, “I hate it because I was going to be here in the morning for some sausage and gravy… But… this is sad.”
Johnson, who has been a regular at Lawhons Grocery for years, drove to the store after hearing about the crash. “It’s hard to believe someone rammed into it,” he said.
Pieces of the wall are broken on the floor after deputies said a car drove and crashed into the storefront. Closed signs are posted on the doors and windows until further notice as they plan to ensure a safe repair and reopening.
Johnson emphasized the store’s importance to the community, noting, “A lot of your old timers stop here in the mornings. It’s like a meeting place, they come in, they get their breakfast, they talk some before headed out to work. The ones that are retired sit here and talk for a little while.”
