Walton County Fire Rescue saves resident from burning home.

A little after 2 a.m. Sunday morning Walton County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire on Winfield St. in the Villa Tasso community in Niceville.

The caller told crews that they could hear a man calling for help from inside the home.

After arriving on the scene firefighters entered through a wall in the mobile home and were able to quickly locate the man who was trapped in the back bedroom.

Fire crews lifted the victim through the bedroom window where Eglin Air Force Base Fire and Emergency Services was waiting to provide aid to the man.

The patient was disorientated and suffering from smoke inhalation, he was transported to a local hospital for further attention.

Firefighters then were able to extinguish the flames that had overtaken part of the home.

Sadly, a dog was found dead inside.

The cause of the flames is still unknown but officials believe it started on the front porch of the home.
