Walton County inmate charged after grabbing detention deputy by throat

A 47-year-oldDeFuniak Springs woman was charged with battery on law enforcement after grabbing a detention deputy by the throat in Walton County over the weekend.

According to the release,detention deputies at the Walton County Jail attempted to place Sherry Underwood back into her cell. When they got close, she raised her hand like she was going to strike a female Detention Deputy.

Underwood only lowered her hand when a male deputy stepped between them, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

While the male Detention Deputy was talking to her, Underwood grabbed him by the throat with both hands and the two fell to the ground, according to the release.

The release states Underwood was secured and placed back into her cell by other detention deputies.

Underwood was charged with battery on detention staff, according to the release.
