Waycross man charged with murder in Madison County crash turned homicide Monday

MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Waycross man Monday in connection to a homicide.

The sheriff’s office said it arrested 21-year-old Detrone Majohnny Middleton Jr. of Waycross, Georgia Monday. He’s facing a second-degree murder charge, according to deputies, and is being held in the Madison County Jail without bond.

His arrest comes after a crash scene quickly transformed into a homicide investigation early Monday morning in Madison County, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a press release, MCSO said deputies were notified of a vehicle crash thanks to an iPhone crash alert.

When deputies arrived on scene along SW Old St. Augustine Road, they noticed a vehicle had crashed into the side of a carport.

After lifesaving attempts from deputies, the driver of the vehicle , who the sheriff’s office has identified as Lekendrick Bernard Burch of Valdosta, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

MCSO said deputies soon discovered Burch had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, triggering a homicide investigation.

Special agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement joined MCSO investigators on scene, according to the release.
