Wellington man dies, 10-year-old boy hurt after SUV crashes into tree

A Wellington man died and a 10-year-old boy was injured after their SUV veered off a road and struck a tree, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The PBSO responded at 7:37 p.m. Friday to the crash at 14350 Palm Beach Point Blvd.

Gonzalez Jose-Diego, 38, was driving a 2022 Toyota Highlander southbound on Palm Beach Point Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

The SUV then rotated, struck a fence and came to a rest along the road.

The two occupants were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, with the man in critical condition and passenger Gonzolo Jose-Bacilio with minor injuries.

They were both wearing seat belts.

On Saturday morning, the driver was pronounced dead.

The two SUV’s occupants resided at the same address.
