A 70-year-old Wesley Chapel man is behind bars after the Florida Highway Patrol said he was involved in a fatal collision on Saturday night and fled the scene.
The crash happened at around 11 p.m. on June 6, involving a Honda CRV, driven by P, and a Yamaha motorcycle, FHP said.
Driving the motorcycle was a 31-year-old Zephyrhills man, and his passenger was a 32-year-old Zephyrhills woman.
P was traveling north on Handcart Road, approaching the motorcycle that was coming from the opposite direction.
FHP said he turned left onto Old Bridge Road, entering the path of the motorcycle and causing a collision.
Both the driver and passenger on the motorcycle were thrown off the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. After being transported to a nearby hospital, the 31-year-old driver died of his injuries.
P fled the scene of the crash and went home, FHP said. He was arrested by troopers shortly after.
Court records from Pasco County indicate he was booked into jail early Sunday morning and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries, and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
