West Palm Beach man arrested after brazen attack on neighbor with a shovel

A West Palm Beach man is behind bars after showing up uninvited, asking for his “eyes,” and bludgeoning his neighbor with a shovel.

On Monday, officers with the West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) responded to the 600 block of High Street in West Palm Beach for reports of a burglary and felony battery.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the caller, who told officers his friend called him to say he was assaulted by his 29-year-old neighbor, R “R” C.

At the scene, WPBPD observed pools of blood on the ground outside the shed before dispatching to St. Mary’s Medical to receive a statement from the 60-year-old victim.

In the trauma room, they located the victim, who positively identified R C as the suspect. He told officers that he had known C since he was 11 years old.

According to his statement, C came to his house uninvited and asked him for his “eyes.” This made the victim confused, and he told C to leave the property.

Later, he said C came back a second time and started “swinging” at him from behind, then he remembers being on the ground, but does not know how he got there.

The next thing the victim could remember was C carrying a shovel, which the victim believes C had hit him with the head with.

Due to the attack, the victim had dry blood covering his face, two lacerations and stitches at the back of his head, as well as bruises on his arms.

Officers subsequently booked C for one count of burglary and one count of felony battery.
