A deadly crash at a major West Palm Beach intersection early this year landed one of the drivers involved behind bars on Thursday.
The West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) arrested S E on counts of driving under the influence and reckless driving for allegedly running a red light and causing the collision.
According to the affidavit, E, 65, was heading east on Belvedere Road around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, when she went to turn left onto South Australian Avenue, near the Palm Beach International Airport.
The Hummer H3 she was driving crashed into the side of a Ford Mustang. Its driver, C G, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Dashcam video captured by a witness showed E had run a red light when she went to make the turn, the investigating officer explained. Shortly after the crash, E described the crash to the officer, saying she had a green light at the time.
E told the officer that she had two drinks that night, a gin and club during an event at the Hilton Hotel, on Australian Avenue, and one during dinner afterwards, the affidavit stated. Both the investigating officer and another officer who responded to the crash noted signs of intoxication.
