A 36-year-old Wildwood man has died from injuries he suffered earlier this week when his sedan was sandwiched between two tractor-trailers in a chain-reaction crash just outside The Villages.
The Wildwood man was driving a Nissan Sentra westbound on County Road 470 in Sumter County at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. As he approached the entrance to 1859 County Road 470, he brought his vehicle to a stop to make a left turn.
At the same time, a tractor-trailer driven by a 57-year-old Georgia man was traveling westbound directly behind the Nissan. The driver of the big rig allegedly failed to stop and collided with the rear of the Wildwood man’s car, the FHP report stated.
The force of the initial impact allegedly propelled the sedan into the eastbound lane, pushing it directly into the path of a second tractor-trailer driven by a 54-year-old New York man. The second truck then collided with the sedan.
The driver of the Nissan was initially transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, but he succumbed to those injuries on Wednesday. Both truck drivers were unharmed.
