Woman accused of biting Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy during arrest

A 45-year-old woman who had an active arrest warrant was biting a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy during her arrest on Friday morning in West Park, according to deputies.

According to Gerdy St. Louis, a BSO spokeswoman, the deputy was arresting Yofressy Baker on a pending warrant shortly after 6:30 a.m., near Southwest 56 Avenue and 18 Street.

“Baker was detained and taken into custody,” St. Louis wrote in a statement.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel treated the BSO deputy.

Court records show Baker, also known as Yofresi and Yofressi, had two pending cases related to alleged violations of municipal ordinances on July 18, 2023, and July 17, in Hollywood.

Both pending cases were for trespassing on private property, and last year’s case included a violation for carrying an open alcoholic beverage in public.

Broward County Circuit Judge Phoebee R. Francois issued two arrest warrants on Sept. 28, 2023, and Aug. 15. The 2023 warrant was served on June 20; the Aug. 15 warrant was pending.

Court records show Baker also has an arrest record in Miami-Dade County for resisting arrest and petit theft. She also has an arrest record in Broward for felonies in 2011, 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2023, but most cases were dropped.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections records, she is not a convicted felon. Baker has an arraignment hearing pending for the July 17 case at 1:30 p.m., on Sept. 19, with Broward County Circuit Judge Corey Amanda Cawthon.
