The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said a woman threw a machete at her neighbor’s face after he asked her to keep the noise down. The attack was caught on camera.
Jamie Dos Santos said he was trying to sleep around midnight on Monday when his neighbors started partying outside his house off 10th Avenue in the Pine Manor neighborhood of south Fort Myers.
Dos Santos said he walked outside and begged his neighbors to keep the noise down.
“Ruby or the girl over here decided that she didn’t like that, that I put earplugs in and go back in my house,” Dos Santos said. “There were a couple beer bottles thrown at me, a couple open can beers that were splashed on me and my trailer.”
After getting soaked by beer, Dos Santos said his neighbor Ruby Mancha picked up a machete and slung it at him towards his face. He said the machete missed his face, but only because he ducked just in the nick of time.
“I don’t know where it came from, she was standing here arguing with me, she grabbed it from somewhere and just flung it, you know what I think it was, I think it was from the banana tree,” Dos Santos said.
The machete hit his trailer instead and left behind a big hole in the metal.
“I thought how lucky I was at that point, how lucky I am,” he said.
Mancha called 911. When deputies saw the incident that was captured on security cameras, they arrested the 44-year-old woman. She faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
“I don’t think her intent was to kill me but she could’ve took my eye or gashed my head,” Dos Santos said.
Lee County deputies said Mancha went hysterical as they tried to arrest her, and made such a ruckus in the patrol car that they had to put shackles on her legs for the ride to jail.
“I don’t want her around no more, she’s dangerous and she can’t control her temper when she’s drinking… so I’m good with Ruby, she can stay up the street,” Dos Santos said.
