Woman, between 60 and 70 years old, fatally shot at large block party: JSO

 The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in Northwest Jacksonville.

According to JSO, a ShotSpotter alert was activated around 9:30 p.m., prompting a nearby patrol officer to respond. Upon arrival, the officer was directed to a woman, believed to be between 60 and 70 years old, who had been shot in the head while sitting in a chair on the sidewalk on Grothe Street. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue pronounced her dead at the scene.

JSO reports that the initial investigation revealed more than 100 people were gathered at the intersection of Grothe and Eaverson Streets for a block party.
