Woman dies after a boat struck an anchored sailboat in Florida Keys

A 24-year-old woman from North Carolina died after a boat collided with a sailboat on Friday night in the Florida Keys.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Sydney Cole was in the 21-foot Century Bay boat that struck an anchored sailboat.

The impact’s force ejected Cole, of Fuquay Varina, and the three others in Buttonwood Sound.

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued the three including a woman from Oakland Park who was injured.

The search for Cole also involved the FWC, the National Park Service, and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

According to the FWC, a search team found Cole’s body and the cause of the crash remained under investigation on Saturday.

The two in the sailboat from Yorktown, Virginia, were not injured.
