A 78-year-old Melbourne woman died when the pickup truck she was driving traveled off of Interstate 95 near Palm Bay on Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:49 a.m. on northbound I-95 at mile marker 177, north of Palm Bay Road, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the front right tire of the Ford F-150 being driven by the woman suffered a malfunction, causing the pickup truck to veer off the roadway right and onto the grass shoulder before striking two trees and a fence.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states. Troopers believe she was wearing a seat belt during the crash.
A roadblock that had been established in the area was cleared as of 2:05 p.m.
FHP is still investigating.
