Woman hospitalized after being shot in Fort Lauderdale

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

It happened along the 100 block of Southwest Third Avenue.

Officers in the area were approached by a woman who had been shot, police said.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded and rushed the woman to Broward Health Medical Center. She is expected to survive, according to authorities.

Police said, so far, it appears the woman was shot by a known suspect in the area of Northwest 19th Street and 15th Avenue.

The investigation is open and ongoing.
