A woman in a wheelchair died Wednesday after a pickup truck hit her in a Westside shopping center parking lot.
The woman in her late 40s was headed to a store around 5:30 p.m. in the Commonwealth Shopping Center on Edgewood Avenue when she was hit, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.
JSO said it appeared that the pickup truck driver, who is cooperating with police, did not see the woman.
According to JSO, the driver was not impaired and was also driving through the parking lot in the appropriate lanes of travel.
It is an ongoing investigation but there are no charges against the driver at this time.
This marks the 32nd traffic fatality in Duval County and the 6th involving a pedestrian.
