Woman killed, 2 others seriously hurt when SUV hits tree off U.S. 17 near Yulee

A 29-year-old woman was killed and two other women were seriously hurt when the SUV they were in drifted across the road and hit a tree on the opposite shoulder, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported just after midnight Monday on U.S. 17, about 1.5 miles north of Yellow Bluff Road and 3 minutes south of Yulee.

Troopers said the SUV was headed south on U.S. 17 when it traveled across the oncoming lane and slammed into a tree on the east shoulder.

The 21-year-old driver and a 60-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries in the crash.

All three women are from Fernandina Beach and none were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
