Woman killed, 3 seriously injured in crash on Colonial Drive in east Orlando

A 37-year-old Orlando woman was killed and three others were seriously injured in a crash on Colonial Drive (SR-50) in east Orlando Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. at Sherman Street.

FHP said the woman was stopped in the westbound left-turn lane of Colonial Drive and was trying to turn left onto Sherman Street when she entered the path of a Mercedes-Benz traveling east on Colonial Drive.

As a result, the front of the Mercedes collided with the right side of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, causing the Trailblazer to overturn.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 21-year-old Orlando man, and two passengers, a 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man, were seriously injured. All three were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The 37-year-old woman driving the the Chevrolet was also taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

FHP said none of the four people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

The eastbound side of Colonial Drive was shut down for 8 hours but reopened around 6 a.m. on Monday.

The crash remains under investigation.
