A woman is dead after crashing into a construction vehicle on I-10 Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP crash report, the 30-year-old Jacksonville woman was traveling in the westbound lanes of I-10 near Lane Ave at approximately 2:15 p.m. While attempting to merge right, she reportedly lost control of the sedan and veered into the left shoulder, striking a parked excavator by the barrier wall.

The woman died after being transported to a hospital by first responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. FHP reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Traffic was stalled on I-10 Westbound for hours as FHP conducted its initial investigation, but lanes reopened shortly after 5 p.m.
