A woman was killed Tuesday evening in Bradenton when she rear-ended a semi on U.S. 41, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Investigators say a Hyundai was traveling north on the right lane of U.S. 41 shortly before 5:30 p.m., approaching the intersection of Scale Avenue.
At the same time, a semi-trailer was also heading north, ahead of Vehicle 1 in the same lane. A third unidentified vehicle was directly behind the semi.
As the semi proceeded through the intersection, it stopped for a railroad crossing.
The unidentified vehicle abruptly changed lanes to the left to avoid stopping behind the semi. The Hyundai did not stop and ran into the rear of the semi.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 21-year-old woman from Ruskin, was killed. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
