Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a crash that killed a woman on the Florida Turnpike in Lake County Saturday night.
Troopers said the crash happened in the northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 283 in Lake County. The driver of a 2021 Buick Enclave traveling north failed to negotiate a curve and entered the inside paved shoulder of the roadway. As a result, the SUV struck the concrete traffic barrier before rotating and hitting the outside shoulder concrete traffic barrier. FHP said the Buick was then in the path of a 2015 Toyota RAV. The Toyota crashed into the right rear of the Buick.
The 66-year-old Crystal River woman driving the Buick was transported to Leesburg Regional Hospital from the scene and was pronounced dead. FHP said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The 82-year-old man driving the Toyota was not transported and remained on scene.
