Woman killed, man hurt in Brevard County when SUV slams into fire hydrant, utility pole

 A driver was seriously injured and their passenger killed in a crash in Brevard County on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the deadly crash happened around 12:26 p.m. on State Road 3 and Pine Island Road.

According to a crash report, a Mitsubishi Outlander driven by a 55-year-old man from Wisconsin was traveling north on State Road 3, approaching Pine Island Road.

Troopers said the Outlander ran off the road and onto the concrete median before driving across the southbound lanes.

The Outlander then slammed into a fire hydrant before going into a ditch and hitting a utility pole.

The passenger, a 60-year-old woman from Wisconsin, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the FHP.

The driver was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.
