A woman was killed in a deadly wreck on I-95 North after she got out of her car after crashing it and was struck by another vehicle.
The incident occurred at around 3:26 a.m., between two vehiclesnear the SR-708/Blue Heron Boulevard interchange (exit 76), according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FHP). The highway patrol continues, the woman was driving a 2018 Mazda CX-5 when she suddenly struck the wall and came to a stop on the outside travel lane. Following the crash, the woman got out of her vehicle.
Around the same time, an 80-year-old man driving a 2010 Honda Civic was traveling on the outside center lane with a tractor-trailer in front of him. The man switched lanes, entered the outside lane, and struck the woman and her vehicle.
FHP says when they arrived at the scene the 80-year-old man was being taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center for medical treatment by the West Palm Beach Fire Department.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by fire rescue personnel.
Following the crash, most lanes closed down and traffic soon backed up across them.
FL511 cameras showed drivers near a standstill from Riviera Beach to 10 Avenue N.The cameras also indicated there was another wreck in the midst of the jam that closed two lanes south of the Palm Beach Gardens Boulevard interchange.
The delays lasted completely through rush hour and the Interstate did not open again until 9 a.m.
