A 42-year-old woman from Weeki Wachee is facing a slew of charges after leading law enforcement on a nearly 20-mile chase on I-95 before a trooper ended the pursuit with a PIT maneuver at the Atlantic Boulevard exit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash that ended the chase sent the woman and two troopers to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to the FHP report, the woman was initially pulled over by a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office deputy who suspected her of driving under the influence. He also confirmed she had a felony warrant for her arrest out of Citrus County.
The woman sped away from the traffic stop in her pick-up truck, and the Sheriff’s Office began chasing her down I-95 northbound, alerting the FHP that they needed help.
Troopers spotted the truck around the Duval/St. Johns County line and joined in the chase.
As the truck neared the Atlantic Boulevard exit, one of the troopers was able to perform a successful PIT maneuver, which caused the woman to lose control and slam into a Hyundai Santa Fe, damaging both vehicles. Two FHP vehicles were also damaged in the crash.
The 37-year-old woman driving the SUV was not hurt.
The driver of the pick-up truck, whose name was not released, is facing charges of reckless driving, DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a stolen firearm — along with the existing warrant from Citrus County.
