Woman shot in hand by another woman during fight in Magnolia Gardens area: JSO

A woman was shot early Saturday morning during a fight on Begonia Road in the Magnolia Gardens area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 3:45 a.m. in the area south of Edgewood Avenue.

According to JSO, shortly after officers got there, a woman in her early 20s arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to her right hand. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigators said they learned a group of people got into a fight in the Begonia Road area, and property was damaged, which escalated the situation.

Both sides pulled out guns, and the woman was shot by a female suspect in her late teens to early 20s, police said.

Several people were detained for questioning, according to JSO. They say this appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.

Crime Scene Unit detectives were processing the scene, and Robbery and Violent Crime detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage.
