Clearwater police said a pedestrian was hit and killed by a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus Saturday evening on the 2700 block of Gulf to Bay Boulevard.
The collision happened just before 7 p.m. at a large shopping center in Clearwater, and police said the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. She was later identified as 39-year-old AW.
There was a large law enforcement presence in the area for a few hours Saturday night as first responders worked to clear the scene.
A spokesperson for the city said the initial investigation suggests the woman fell while she was trying to get the driver’s attention as the bus drove away. She was banging on the side of the bus when she lost her footing and fell underneath the rear wheel.
