The Tampa Police Department is investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead early Monday morning.

Officers said they found the woman’s body at the 5700 block of North Nebraska Avenue at about 8:04 a.m. 8 On Your Side spotted crime scene tape surrounding the Iglesia de Dios Church of God when our crew was at the scene.

A TPD release stated that the victim had upper body trauma. However, investigators are still working to piece together what happened to her.

Dr. Jeffrey Johnson works in the area and heard about the crime.

“It’s horrible, this has become too much of a norm for the East Tampa and Seminole Heights community,” Johnson said.

At this time, the woman’s identity will not be released until her next-of-kin are notified.

“As a pastor for the last 23 years, it breaks my heart that someone could have that level of distain and disrespect for the house of God to leave someone there, let alone murder someone,” Johnson said.

If you know anything, call the Tampa police at 813-231-6130 or Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS (8477) or via TIP411.
