Two women suffered serious injuries in a crash Friday morning on W Nine Mile Road at I-10 in Escambia County.

It happened around 10 a.m.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Chevy SUV driven by a 19-year-old Pensacola woman was traveling east on W 9 Mile Road, while a Nissan Sedan driven by a 20-year-old Niceville woman was traveling west on W 9 Mile Road.

FHP says while passing another vehicle, the 19-year-old driver lost control of her SUV, entered the westbound travel lanes and began overturning. She then collided with the Nissan Sedan.

“At the time of the crash, the area was experiencing heavy rain fall,” FHP says in its report.

Escambia County Fire Rescue said the crash involved extrication.

Both women were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.

No further details were released.
