Wrong-way driver accused of nearly crashing into scene of deadly wreck in Port St. Lucie

A wrong-way driver, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, almost crashed into the scene of another wrong-way crash that left a woman dead and a 3-year-old seriously injured.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD), officers were on the scene investigating a deadly wrong-way crash on St. James Drive on Jan. 19. Police say that’s when another driver was stopped before he could crash into officers and the traffic crash site.

Body cam video shows two officers speaking to the man who is driving a pickup truck. The man is instructed to get out of the car. When he does he’s clutching a bag of cocaine and fentanyl in his hand.

“Ahh, there it is,” a Port St. Lucie Police officer can heard saying.

A little while before deputies stopped the second wrong-way driver, officers were on scene investigating a wrong-way crash that seriously injured a 3-year-old and killed a woman.
