A man was found dead in his car on Saturday morning following a head-on collision in Winter Haven, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 4:25 a.m., deputies and fire rescue responded to the crash scene on SR-60, near Logistics Parkway to find 35-year-old OD A S, of Eagle Lake, dead inside his Nissan Sentra.
Officials located another driver, SN R, 27, of Lake Wales, and his Hyundai Sonata at the scene. R was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses told deputies that R was traveling the wrong way on eastbound SR-60 when he collided head-on with S, who was traveling east in the eastbound lanes.
Eastbound SR-60 was closed for nearly four hours as crews investigated the crash.
According to PCSO, R could be facing criminal charges. This remains an ongoing investigation.
