A federal suspect was hospitalized following an officer-involved shooting in Pasco County on Thursday afternoon.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office with the United States Marshals Task Force said that they were trying to locate a man for federal warrants after receiving a tip Wednesday night that the man was in New Port Richey.
Detectives attempted to pull over the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Tom Rose when they were led on a brief pursuit.
“He knew law enforcement was chasing him,” Sheriff Chris Nocco said on Thursday in a press conference.
Shortly after, Rose was found at a Home Depot in the area of River Ridge.
As officials worked to apprehend the suspect, Rose attempted to strike and kill authorities with his vehicle. That’s when authorities fired shots back.
“You screw around, you find out,” the Sheriff added. “You screwed around today, you tried to hurt Pasco detectives, you found out what’s gonna happen. We’re going to shoot at you.”
Rose was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Definitely a dangerous situation,” Sheriff Nocco said. “He is a very violent individual.”
On Wednesday evening, Rose made a statement to an unknown individual saying that if anyone contacts the police, they would have to answer to him and that he would take cops with him.
Nearby schools were put on a precautionary controlled campus status, but deputies said this was an isolated incident and that there was no threat to the public.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
