1 dead, 2 seriously injured in Putnam County crash

A 22-year-old motorcyclist from St. Augustine was killed in a crash involving two motorcycles and an SUV on State Road 100 Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 9:05 p.m. near Lakeview Drive. Troopers reported that four motorcycles were heading westbound on SR-100 when one collided with the side of another motorcycle. That impact forced the second motorcycle onto the grass shoulder.

The initial collision caused the first motorcycle to veer into the eastbound lane, where it struck an oncoming SUV head-on.

The SUV’s driver, a 59-year-old man from Virginia, and his 86-year-old female passenger were both seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The 28-year-old rider of the second motorcycle suffered minor injuries.

Troopers confirmed the St. Augustine rider, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
