A man is accused of shooting at a state trooper while fleeing from deputies.
The Florida Highway Patrol was on the lookout for a 29-year-old man with an active warrant Sunday.
The license plate of a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander was sent out from the Lake Worth Regional Communications Center as the vehicle fled from Hillsborough County, Florida.
Around 5:30 a.m., a sergeant with FHP noticed the vehicle traveling northbound on I-95 near Midway Road in St. Lucie County.
When the sergeant attempted a traffic stop and the 29-year-old did not comply, a short pursuit ensued.
The state trooper then performed a precision immobilization technique, known as a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver, to stop the driver.
Once the vehicle stopped, the suspect began shooting at the state trooper, multiple agencies were calling in for assistance.
The suspect was taken into custody after a brief standoff, then transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
