1 dead after wrong-way crash in Lake County

One person is dead after a wrong-way crash on State Road 33 in Groveland, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash happened around 6 a.m. on Wednesday north of Edgewood Boys Ranch Road.

A 22-year-old man from Groveland was driving a 2005 Ford 500 south in the northbound lanes of SR-33. He entered the direct path of a northbound 2012 Mack tractor-trailer, FHP says.

The truck driver, a 47-year-old man from Riverview, swerved but collided head-on with the 22-year-old.

The tractor-trailer overturned, and its driver was taken to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

The 22-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
