1 injured after boat submerges near Redfish Pass in Lee County

One person was injured after a boat became submerged in the water near Redfish Pass in Pine Island Sound Sunday.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, FWC units were joined by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard and Fire Rescue responding to reports of a single vessel incident in Lee County.

FWC said that preliminary information indicated that a 21-foot boat with three people on board was traveling in Pine Island Sound near Redfish Pass near Captiva. While the boat was underway, it began to take on water and submerged.

One of the passengers sustained minor injuries during the incident, FWC said.

The investigation is still active.
