1 killed, 1 seriously injured when motorcycle hits SUV making turn in Lakeland, police say.

A man riding a motorcycle through Lakeland was killed Friday morning when he crashed into the side of an SUV that had turned in his path, according to police.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. at West Memorial Boulevard’s intersection with Crutchfield Road, a news release states.

According to the release, the motorcyclist — identified by police as Domonic Brooks, 32, of Lakeland — was traveling west on the boulevard as the driver of an eastbound SUV sought to turn left onto Crutchfield Road. Inside of the SUV were two occupants, reportedly an 80-year-old man driving and an 81-year-old woman in the front passenger seat, both of Huntley, Illinois.

Brooks’ motorcycle struck the passenger side of the SUV and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The woman in the SUV was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries while the man who was with her suffered minor injuries and was not transported, according to the release.

Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department responded to assist Lakeland police at the scene, the release states.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Lakeland traffic crash investigators via email.
