1 killed in crash on US-41 in Nokomis: sheriff’s office

One person was killed in a crash on US-41 in Nokomis on Sunday morning, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash occurred near the intersection of US-41/Tamiami Trail and Bayshore Drive at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Deputies said a Lincoln Cosair was traveling in the right lane, approaching Bayshore Drive, and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle was traveling in the left lane.

The Lincoln made a left turn from the right lane and collided with the front right of the motorcycle, deputies said.

Due to the impact, deputies said the motorcycle was moved southeast before stopping in the median pass-through for Bayshore Road.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fast lanes on the northbound and southbound sides were both closed for over three hours, causing delays for drivers in the area.

The Florida Highway Patrol is taking the lead on the investigation.
