A devastating house fire killed an 18-year-old in St. Petersburg early Sunday morning, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue said.
First responders were first called to the scene at around 3:30 a.m. and arrived to find a large fire originating from the front of a home on Neptune Drive in Coquina Key.
Deputy Fire Chief Brett Ciskoski said firefighters began an aggressive attack on the fire and started a search for anyone who might be inside.
Inside the home was a family of four, a mother and her three children, ages 18, 17 and 10. The deputy chief said all victims were out of the house within 10 minutes of the first responders’ arrival.
The mother and two teenagers were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. The 18-year-old girl was later pronounced dead.
Ciskoski said the 10-year-old was not injured and left the scene with another parent.
The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
As of around 7 a.m., St. Petersburg Fire Rescue had not shared any updates on the conditions of the mother or the 17-year-old.
