14-year-old boy dies in Titusville crash with city dump truck

A 14-year-old boy died last week when his dirt bike collided with a dump truck in Titusville, according to the police department.

The crash happened on Jan. 2 near the intersection of North Dixie and Georgia avenues.

According to police, the teen, Collin Jacob Liston, was riding his dirt bike when it collided with a City of Titusville solid waste dump truck.

The boy was an eighth grader at Edgewood Jr/Sr High School. The principal sent a message to the school’s families over the weekend:

Dearest Edgewood Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I share this tragic news with you. We lost an incredible student on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Collin Liston, 8th grade, passed away tragically. So many of our students (and families) knew this amazing boy and his family. I know many of you have already reached out asking what you can do to provide support. Below is an avenue that can help lift some of the burden they are feeling right now.

Meal Train for The Liston Family:

Administration and Guidance will work with Edgewood’s PTO to share all information, and you may share with others. This news is devastating to our community so please reach out to Administration/Guidance should you need additional support. District personnel and support counselors will be on campus and available when we return to school on Monday, January 8, so please do not hesitate to let us know your needs. We will operate on a regular bell schedule (we will not have any Mental Health Education lessons).

A Celebration of Life for Collin will be at the North Brevard funeral home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11 am. Please click the link below for detailed information.

Please keep the Liston Family in your thoughts and prayers. Our entire community is grieving their incredibly special son.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Ingratta

Principal, Edgewood Junior Senior High School

A meal train and GoFundMe have been set up for the family.

“Collin was such a special young man and truly was a bright star in a dark sky. He was so funny, intelligent, a strong outdoorsman, a loyal friend, courageous, a strong scout, a great student, a deep thinker with lots of questions, and we knew he had a good future ahead of him,” the GoFundMe says.
