16-year-old hurt in Sanford drive-by shooting

Police in Sanford are looking for whoever shot a 16-year-old as he was walking in an area south of downtown Monday afternoon.

Police said the teen was in the area of Ninth Street and Holly Avenue, just west of North French Avenue, when he was shot in the leg. Police believe the whoever pulled the trigger was in a dark-colored sedan. The teen was able to get to a nearby family member’s home and was taken to the hospital.

Officers said there have been several incidents like this one over the past few weeks, including a drive-by shooting that happened a few hours later that day. The agency is increasing patrol staffing levels in response.

If you have any information about the shooting or the suspects involved, please contact the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
