A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Friday night near a boat ramp in Fellsmere.

Deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:24 p.m. Friday to reports of a juvenile who had been shot in the area of Garcia’s Boat Ramp in the 3700 block of County Road 512.

Deputies found the teen and began lifesaving measures until Indian River County Fire Rescue arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.

The teen was taken to Sebastian River Medical Center before being flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives with the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and crime scene personnel are processing the area and interviewing multiple witnesses.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to call the IRCSO at 772-569-6700 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS.
