An 18-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash while filming a social media haircutting video in the median of a road in Ocala.
Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, officers responded to Southwest College Road near 17th Road on reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Officers say the 18-year-old was standing in the median with two others filming a social media video while giving a haircut.
A Chevy Silverado heading westbound on College Road collided with a Lexus SUV entering the intersection from the Ocala West Plaza. The Silverado then struck the pedestrian in the median.
Officers continue to investigate the cause of the crash. They say neither driver showed signs of impairment. No one else was hurt.
Officers say the victim was sitting in a chair taken from the nearby Raising Cane’s restaurant.
Multiple people posting about the incident on social media claim the pedestrians were filming a haircut challenge video for TikTok.
A witness, L, provided video from the scene as well as video of himself speaking with the two other teens filming the video before the crash.
“As soon as I look back, the car hit him,” a teen said.
“i get goosebumps. It’s shocking. No emotion, no remorse. they were just smirk on their face. It was unreal. And I spoke to them after, off camera, and I told them, ‘Hey, look guys, this is serious. It’s not worth the likes or the video fame,’” said L.
